Housed in a 1903 restored train shunting
shed, the restaurant is a welcome stop
for lunch. The original floors and chairs
resurrected from the train graveyard give
a lovely old fashioned ambience.
The pizza is famous around the region
with locals – there are many to
choose from even a breakfast pizza! I
tried the blue cheese and caramelised
onion pizza which was awesome! The pizzas
take a while to prepare but since they
are made from scratch including freshly
chopped toppings and rolled bases, they
are worth waiting for. This is also the
place for delicious ribs and steak. We
had nothing to do the entire afternoon
except relax, drink the local wines and
eat – and this is the right place
for that.
The slow down ethos pervades here, and
a good glass of red should be taken along
with the view over the Botrivier valley.
For kids there are delicious milkshakes
– there is even bubblegum flavour!
Every Thursday night is quiz night and
this is a fun way to integrate with the
locals.
The railway tracks stop just outside and
they are in discussions with Transnet
to turn this into a destination. Watch
this space!
Nearby are the bookshop, coffee shop,
antique store and railway museum –
making this an all round fun family outing.
