Route: From Cape Town past Grabouw down the Houw Hoek pass towards Hermanus
 
Start with a visit to Sakha Sonke Arts in Grabouw followed by breakfast at Peregrine Farm Stall - or coffee and cake! Order a picnic basket ahead of time to take with you on your meander. Head straight along the N2 and stop for your first wine-tasting at Paul Cluver Wines. If you forgot to order a picnic, stop off at Houw Hoek Farm Stall & Coffee Shop where you can order off the menu or catch your own trout and ask the chef to prepare it the way you like it. After lunch you can choose to stay in the area, spending the afternoon relaxing, birding or hiking to your overnight destination:

Or continue down to Botriver and
up the Van der Stel Pass
 
through the Elgin Valley
Route: From Cape Town past Grabouw through the Elgin Valley back to the N2 or down to Arabella
 
Should you wish to drive through the Elgin Valley, start with a visit to Sakha Sonke Arts in Grabouw and then stop for coffee or order your picnic basket ahead of time at Peregrine Farm Stall. Turn right onto the Viljoenshoop Road and drive through the beautiful valley. Visit Iona Vineyards on the Highlands Rd and come back via the Valley Rd, stopping at Ross Gower Wines and back to the N2.
 
You could also start this route from the Valley Rd, passing Ross Gower Wines first and then go on to Iona Vineyards, as this road will take you down to Arabella before meeting
 
up with the R43, bringing you back up to Botriver and home via the N2. Stop at Houw Hoek Coffee Shop for lunch or take the Van der Stel pass, calling Goedvertrou ahead of time to prepare a special home-cooked meal with some wine from the farm.

up the Van der Stel Pass
Route: From Botriver up the Van der Stel Pass to the Theewaterskloof Dam
 
From Cape Town, continue past the Kleinmond / Hermanus turnoff down to Botriver, stopping at Beaumont Wines. Take the Van der Stel Pass up to Luddite for a wine- tasting, then on to Goedvertrou Wines. Call ahead for Elreida to prepare a light lunch. After lunch, go for a stroll in Diepklowe Nature Reserve or call Four Seasons Eco Tours for a guided walk.You may not wish to leave the peace and quiet of this countryside amble in which case you are welcome to stay over at one of the following:

Or continue on to meet up with the R321. When you reach the tar road, turn right to
Villiersdorp for a visit to the Dale Elliot Art Gallery and for more wine-tasting and homemade treats at Kelkiewyn, or turn left over the Viljoen’s Pass to Oak Valley and back to Cape Town. This road also meets up with the R45 to Franschhoek. This route can be taken from either direction.

Route: From Cape Town past Grabouw over the Viljoen’s Pass to Villiersdorp
 
Another way to circle the Groenlandberg is to pass Peregrine Farm Stall, turn left towards Grabouw and right onto the R321. Start with a wine-tasting at Oak Valley amidst the oak forest and continue over the Viljoen's Pass to Villiersdorp for a browse in the Dale Elliot
Art Gallery and a tasting or lunch at Kelkiewyn. Come back the same way but this time turn left and take the Van der Stel Pass down to Botriver and back home.
 
via Du Toitskloof  
Route: Take the R45 from Franschhoek over the Theewaterskloof Dam, down the Van der Stel Pass, then back over the Viljoen’s Pass.
 
The R45 from Franschhoek will bring you to a T-junction. Turn left towards Villiersdorp for a tour of the Dale Elliot Art Gallery and a tasting or coffee at Kelkiewyn. Coming back take the Van der Stel Pass from either side (see map) and continue down to Goedvertrou for a tasting - call ahead for Elreida to prepare lunch. Next stop: Luddite Wines for a tasting. Come off the pass, turn left over the railway line and left again into Beaumont for a tasting and a tour of the cellar. Drive through Botriver and take the highway back towards Grabouw, stopping at the Houw Hoek Farm Stall for lunch or to purchase some fresh produce. Next stop is Paul Cluver Wines and then on to the R321 stopping at Oak Valley to sample some of their wine before traveling the Viljoen’s Pass to meet up with the R45 to Franschhoek again.
