After conducting their
acclaimed Knysna Painting Holidays from thier beautifully
appointed Leisure Isle studios for nearly two decades,
Dale & Janny Elliot decided to create a new
chapter in thier lives by re-locating to the beautiful
Boland town of Villiersdorp, in the Western Cape.
There they have built a state-of-the-art Studio
and Art Complex, incorporating a gallery, a framing
section and a superbly appointed teaching studio
for thier Art Workshops. The Studio and Gallery
are ideally situated, and include every convenience
for visitors and participants on the Art Workshops.
Dale (Ba LLB) AWSSA practised as an attorney for
a decade before turning his art interest into his
new profession in `1984, and Janny, who studied
art at school, has managed and administered their
wide art portfolio over the years, establishing
their first art gallery in 1979. They
have 4 children, Lindy, Les, Mel and Jonno, all
of whom have a keen interest in art in various
forms.
Dale & Janny are leaders of the Painting Holiday
concept in Southern Africa, and they have conducted
approximately 200 courses over the past 20 years.
Dale, who has completed in excess
of 15 000 canvases to date, is an Associate of
the Watercolour Society of South Africa, and his
work is represented in many collections locally
and overseas.
Dale has spent much time researching a new format
for their courses in thier new-generation phase,
and has decided to offer participants painting
tuition in his studio over 3 days, in selected
weeks of the year. These days will be Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday in the nominated weeks.
A recent innovation has been the introduction
of Outdoor courses, where the participant paint
enpleinair - 'on the spot' at selected exciting
venues sourced in the district. These courses,
for advanced and intermediate artists are held
over 4 days Monday to Thursday and have proven
to be immensely popular. Further details provided
on request.

Wildekrans Country House is home to a collection
of art works of some of South Africa’s internationally
renowned contemporary artists. These include works
by William Kentridge, Robert Hodgins, Wilma Cruise,
Simon Stone, Hylton Nel, Deborah Bell and Guy
du Toit. The most recent addition to this collection
is a piece by Wilma Cruise – Sheep may safely
graze. Sheep may safely graze: The return of the
Bultfontein sheep is an installation at the Oliewenhuis
Museum in Bloemfontein. The inspiration was provided
by an infamous moment during the Anglo-Boer war.
On the farm Bultfontein, which lies between the
Vet and Sand rivers, sheep from the neighbouring
farms were herded together, shot and left to rot
in the sun. It is in memory of these sheep in
particular, and the animals of the Boer War in
general, that Sheep may safely graze: The return
of
the Bultfontein sheep was conceived
South Africa succeeded in emerging from the turbulent
20th century as one of the freest democracies
in the world. Now at the dawn of the 21st century,
we live in a time of increasing peace and prosperity.
Sheep have returned to the fold, where they may
safely graze. The return of Bultfontein sheep
signifies this period of grace and acts as a cipher
for reconciliation.
Wildekrans Country House has five of these life-size
ceramic sheep made in replica in a limited edition
of 30.
